Here at trickyBASICS, we are accredited coaches for an amazing coaching programme for any manager new to their role, called Right Start. Developed in New Zealand by Cynthia Johnson of Right Start Jobs, this one-on-one coaching programme guides and supports managers through the first critical 100 days so that they get off to the best start possible.
If a newly appointed manager's first 100 days are managed well, they can be set up for a successful, enjoyable, and rewarding time, transitioning to their new role. They can be one of only 15% of managers starting a new role, who, by the end of their first year:
are thriving, loving their job and making a difference
have delighted their own manager, who is now looking for ways to extend them
have a team that is humming
have built good relationships with their peers, suppliers and customers.
Our Right Start coaching programme has been developed by Cynthia Johnson to guide and support managers through the first critical months of starting a new job. It consists of six, semi-structured sessions spread over the first 100 days. Each session covers one or more of the activities required to meet milestones that predict the newly hired manager will be seen as successful at the first anniversary of their appointment.
Coachees also receive fantastic resources. We have two books for managers who are starting a new job. Both are written by Cynthia Johnson to perfectly support the coaching programme.
Right Start: A guide for managers in their first 100 days of a new job.
Get-Go. New manager’s planning book for the first three months in a new role.
Outcomes for the new manager from the six coaching sessions include:
Helping them get crystal clear on what’s expected of them in their new role so that they can deliver results and feel like they’re winning.
Helping them figure out who matters most to their performance (and how they like to work) so that they can achieve great things with them. Building great relationships upfront with all their stakeholders means a whole hoard of people will want to help them succeed.
Helping them build their reputation as a successful manager based on why they were selected, allowing them to shine.
Giving them ways to get to know their new team so that they can leverage team members' strengths, plan their development, and build effective individual relationships.
Alongside their own manager, helping them identify a way for them and their team to have an early win, so that they secure “champions” from within their team and from their other stakeholders.
Providing them with guidance and support through the inevitable waves of doubt they’ll have about their new role so that they can verbalise, receive encouragement to keep an open mind, then get themselves back on track.
Helping them prepare and finalise their vision with their new team so that they are united in their approach to develop the goals and actions required to make it a reality.
their transition into their new role
their learning and their achievement of those all-important successes during the critical first three months
getting their new team on board and winning their commitment.
We’d be honoured to be alongside your new managers through this exciting time.
