We are Karen and Merv, a couple who enjoy helping people and living life with a healthy mix of adventure and relaxation.
With careers in Organisational Development and Employment Relations, we have been involved in a lot, from developing newbie managers who are just starting out, right through to coming to the rescue when things have gone totally pear-shaped.
The story behind trickyBASICS began after several debriefs over a glass of wine at the end of our work day. We'd end up discussing how we observed some managers handle both tricky and basic situations and noticed a recurring pattern. When things hadn't gone well for a manager, our conversations consistently returned to:
“If only someone had taught them such-and-such when they first became a manager.”
“If only they’d known to approach it this way.”
“Wouldn’t it be great if they had access to on-demand help as and when they need it?”
And then we realised. We had the right combination of skills and a strong desire to support managers in getting the basics of people leadership right and confidently navigating the trickier aspects, throughout their leadership journey.
And so, trickyBASICS was born (see what we did there?).
